The Coquitlam Express kick off their Main Camp on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd, with 34 players arriving at Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex to compete for a coveted spot on the 2024-2025 roster. The camp, which will run for the next two weeks, with six exhibition games.
Head Coach Jeff Wagner expressed optimism about the talent on display, stating, “This is one of the most competitive camps we’ve had in recent years. We’ve got a great mix of returning players, promising rookies, and a few surprises that could really make a difference for us this season.”
The 34 players, consisting of both veterans and newcomers, will undergo rigorous on-ice sessions, scrimmages, and off-ice evaluations. Management and coaching staff is looking for not only skill and athleticism but also the right attitude and work ethic that align with the Express’ team culture.
“This camp is about more than just showcasing individual talent. We’re looking for players who can fit into our system, contribute to our team dynamics, and ultimately help us win games,” said Tali Campbell, General Manager.
Returning stars such as Jackson Krill and Joseph Odyniec are expected to lead by example, setting the tone for younger players aiming to make an impression. Meanwhile, the newcomers, including recent signings and invitees from across North America, are eager to prove they have what it takes to compete at this level.
