Express Head Coach, Barry Wolff named 2014 Coach of the Year

The Coquitlam Express are proud to announce that Head Coach and General Manager Barry Wolff has been named to the Wall of Fame as the 2014 Coach of the year by the Coquitlam Sports Hall of fame.

Barry is being recognized by the hall for his contributions to the Express and Coquiltam sports history during his first season behind the teams bench when he guided them to their second BCHL championship and an appearance in the Western Canada Cup in Dauphin Manitoba in 2014.
In Wolff’s first season behind the Express bench the team finished with a record of 27-26-2-3. Then in the playoffs the team took off by defeating the Prince George Spruce Kings, Langley Rivermen in six games to advance to the BCHL’s double round robin third round. In the double round robin the Express posted a 2-1 record to advance to the Fred Page Cup final. In the final the Express capped off their BCHL championship run with a four game sweep of the Vernon Vipers winning the second BCHL championship for the Express and the first BCHL championship for a team from Coquitlam. The winning goal was scored by Coquitlam native Adam Rockwood.
From there it was a trip to the Western Canada Cup for Wolff and the Express in Dauphin Manitoba where they posted a 2-3 record.
This recognition is a well deserved honour for Barry who’s had a lengthy career in coaching in the BCHL and other junior hockey clubs. Over that time he’s had a very positive impact on his players and the people he’s come across to become one of the most well respected coaches in all of junior hockey.
The Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame is located in the home of the Express the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex located on 633 Poirier Street.
The Hall of Fame class and Wall of Fame honorees will be recognized in a ceremony at the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday, June 18th. Tickets are $10. They can be purchased by email at [email protected] or at the door.
